Teresa Maynes

M.A., CCC

Teresa is pursuing a Ph.D. in Counselling Psychology at the University of British Columbia. She received her M.A. in Counselling (Addiction emphasis) from Boise State University in Idaho in 2021 and her B.A. in Psychology from Utah State University in 2017.

Her area of research interest is problematic substance use and co-occurring disorders, with an emphasis on recovery, relapse prevention, and reintegration and the educational and vocational impacts of substance use disorders. She has experience providing individual and group counselling to adults with substance use and other mental health disorders, including anxiety and depression.

She has provided counselling in outpatient substance use treatment centres, university counselling centres, and private practice.

Teresa is completing a one year practicum with the DBT Centre where she will specialize in providing comprehensive, adherent DBT and working with people who struggle with borderline personality disorder, non-suicidal self-injury (cutting, burning, etc), as well as chronic suicidal ideation and behaviour. Her primary supervisor is Dr. Chapman.

Teresa is available Mondays and Thursdays for in-person or Zoom sessions. She is not available for evening or weekend appointments.

Teresa is a Certified Canadian Counsellor with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCC) are covered. Please inquire with your insurance provider if services provided by a doctoral student supervised by a registered psychologist and/or Certified Canadian Counsellor are covered.

Outside of her clinical interests, Teresa enjoys baking, hiking, and traveling.
