Dr. Matt Wakefield (CPBC #2886) is a registered psychologist at the DBT Centre of Vancouver. He received his Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, BC. Matt completed his predoctoral residency at the Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre in Ottawa, ON.
Matt has extensive training and experience in providing comprehensive, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioural Theory, and in working with individuals with overwhelming emotion, anxiety, suicidality, self-harm, complex trauma histories, and/or posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). He is a certified Prolonged Exposure Therapy for PTSD therapist and an official Cognitive Processing Therapy for PTSD provider.
Prior to joining the DBT Centre, Matt worked at Operational Stress Injury Clinics in Ontario and Nova Scotia, and thus also has significant experience working with veterans and RCMP members with PTSD and other mental health disorders.
Matt is available Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 9am – 5pm for in person or Zoom sessions. He is not available for evening or weekend appointments.
In his time off, Matt enjoys running, reading, watching movies, and spending time with his partner and their two dogs.
