Arezoo Shahnaz is a postdoctoral fellow at the DBT Centre of Vancouver. She is completing her Ph.D. in the Clinical Psychology program at the University of British Columbia (UBC). Arezoo completed her pre-doctoral residency with Vancouver Coastal Health, where she received specialized training in trauma, transitional pain, eating disorders, and early childhood mental health.
Arezoo works with children, adolescents, and young adults with a range of mental health challenges, such as borderline personality disorder, suicide and self-harm behaviours, emotion dysregulation, eating disorder behaviours, trauma, depression, anxiety (e.g., selective mutism, separation anxiety, social anxiety, generalized anxiety), and OCD. She also supports caregivers of youth who may be struggling with these issues.
Arezoo also has specialized training and experience in evidence-based treatments for trauma. She is trained in both Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) and Prolonged Exposure (PE), which are treatment protocols considered by research to be best practices for PTSD.
Arezoo predominately uses Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and she draws from a variety of treatment approaches on a person by person basis. These include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), and Prolonged Exposure (PE).
Arezoo is available on Monday afternoons for Zoom sessions, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays for in-person or Zoom sessions. She is not available for weekend or evening appointments.
Arezoo’s primary supervisor is Dr. Michel. Please inquire with your insurance provider if services provided by a doctoral clinician supervised by a registered psychologist are covered.
In her spare time, Arezoo enjoys watching reality television, exploring new coffee shops, and spending time with her extremely needy wiener dog, Charlie Brown.
