Presented by: Alana J. McVey, Ph.D.
Dates: Friday April 10, 2026
Time: 1 pm – 2:30 PM PST (2 – 3:30pm MST / 3 – 4:30pm CST / 4 PM – 5:30 PM EST)
Location: Zoom
About the Webinar
Autistic people are much more likely to experience suicidality, with a 9-fold risk of ideation, 6-fold risk of attempt, and 5-fold risk of death by suicide. Despite these elevated rates, mental health providers are not routinely trained in delivering mental health treatment, including Dialectical Behavior Therapy, to Autistic clients and have expressed a lack of competence and confidence in doing so.
In this 90-minute introductory webinar, Dr. McVey will:
1.Define Autism,
2.Give an overview of the prevalence and symptoms of co-occurring mental health concerns among Autistic people, and
3.Outline evidence-driven strategies for Autism-affirming adaptations to full-model DBT.
Learning Objectives
1.Identify four characteristics of Autism in adulthood.
2.Name three warning signs of suicidality specific to Autistic people.
3.Describe three adaptations to skills training for Autistic clients.
