At the Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) Centre of Vancouver, we use compassionate, scientifically supported treatments to help people achieve goals that are important to them and increase the quality of their lives. Our clinicians provide evidence-based individual, group, and family services. We have a full DBT program, including individual therapy, telephone consultation, skills training groups, and a consultation team and also offer other Cognitive Behavioural (CBT) and Mindfulness & Acceptance Based Treatments. In addition, we regularly train and consult with mental health providers across Canada.
The DBT Centre of Vancouver (DBTCV) was developed in 2007 by Dr. Alex Chapman (#1701) and Dr. John Wagner (#1713) to help people suffering from challenging and complex mental health problems. Drs. Chapman and Wagner became colleagues and friends while completing 2-year post-doctoral fellowships at the University of Washington with Dr. Marsha Linehan, the developer of Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT). The DBTCV started small in 2007, with Drs. Chapman and Wagner each helping only a few clients outside of their regular work hours. It quickly became clear, however, that there was a great need for DBT services in the Lower Mainland (and across British Columbia). Since then, the DBTCV has grown considerably with the hiring of a number of clinicians, including several registered psychologists, a clinical counselor, and post-doctoral fellows. We provide compassionate, individualized, evidence-based treatment for a variety of concerns, helping our clients reach important personal goals and improve the overall quality of their lives. We also always do our best to ensure that our clients are treated professionally and with kindness, respect, and compassion. The DBTCV is both a treatment centre and a training centre and, as such, we also spend a lot of time training clinicians and other mental health professionals, both locally and abroad.
